How to fix a ceiling and do water damage repair in Worcester

    Last updated 12 days ago

Ceilings can be repaired in much the same way as water damaged drywall and it is possible to do this repair at home. Experts in water damage repair in Worcester have some handy hints to help you with this DIY repair job.

A water damage repair job on a ceiling requires a fair amount of equipment and material. These include a tape measure, pencil, straight edge, safety glasses, dust mask, step ladder, drywall knife, some scrap board, a handsaw, some drywall, drywall tape, drywall screws, a drill, drywall compound and some sandpaper. Follow the easy step by step instructions below to sort out any water damaged ceilings.

    • Measure the damaged section – Take down the length and width measurements, adding in an extra two inches to make sure that all of the moisture laden drywall is removed. Pencil out a square around the damp area for the water damage repair.
    • Cut out the damaged section – Put on the goggles and dust mask when doing this. Use the drywall knife to cut out the square and use the handsaw to cut out bigger chunks of the damaged drywall.
    • Place anchor mounts – These are blocks of wood that the new piece of drywall can be anchored to. These blocks should be two inches square and they should be placed flat in the each corner of the square. Secure the blocks in place with the drill.
    • Install the new piece of drywall – Using the measurements taken down earlier, mark out the same sized square on the new piece of drywall. Score the drywall with the knife and break it off at the scored edged. Drywall will bend where it is cut, so the knife can be used to slide through the paper. Use the step ladder and place the new piece of drywall up onto the section of ceiling. Screw it into place using the drill. Caution should be exercised in this portion of the water damage repair and care should be taken not to fall.
    • Finish off the new piece of drywall – Use the drywall tape and stick pieces over the joints. The tape needs to cover the seam and should be covered in drywall compound. This can be applied using the drywall knife and it should be done in thin layers and allowed to dry for twelve hours. Apply more compounds to the seam area and allow it to dry again. Sand down with drywall sandpaper and paint to match the rest of the ceiling.

While not complicated, this type of water damage repair in Worcester can be quite labor and time intensive. Consider calling in a specialist water damage repair firm for any ceiling repairs that need to be done.

Understanding Oriental rug cleaning in Acton

    Last updated 19 days ago

Most Oriental rug owners will appreciate the importance of proper area rug cleaning in Acton. Yet it is never wise to entrust the cleaning and maintenance of these expensive rugs to just anyone. Only ever allow experienced and certified professionals to work on your rugs. Arming yourself with the basics that goes into the actual cleaning of Oriental rugs will enable you to make a wiser choice as to who you entrust it to.

Following is a summary of the process that goes into cleaning Oriental and area rugs:

    • Rug inspection: Before the Oriental rug cleaning will begin, the rug cleaner will first perform a hand inspection of the rug. During this process, any loose and obvious dirt particles will be removed. This is an important buildup to the actual cleaning of the rug. Dry soil removal is performed by making use of vibration machines which are slowly rolled over the surface of the rug.
    • Dye tests: The stability of the rug’s colors is determined by having the dyes tested. The reasoning behind this is to ensure that the rug’s colors will not bleed once the actual cleaning process starts. The washing and rinsing phases are some of the most critical stages in area rug cleaning where the biggest chance of something going wrong can occur. Each color on the rug will need to be tested individually.
    • Actual cleaning process: During the actual cleaning process we apply The Natural®, a safe and non-toxic carbonated cleaning solution.  The carbonation literally helps explode the dirt out of the rug fibers and lift it to the surface for removal.  This patented cleaning process is like giving your rug a gentle mineral bath.  Only Chem-Dry uses The Natural® for a deep clean that's also Green!

Colonial Chem-Dry offers competitive tile, grout and stone cleaning. They are also experienced in professional area and Oriental rug cleaning in Acton.
